INTRODUCTION TO PRIMARY HEALTH CARE (CHC 201/202)
TAKE GOD'S HEALING TO THE NATIONS

"If one of you says to him, 'GO, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed' but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?" James 2:16

Did you know the biggest killers of children in the poorest nations of the world today remain simple diseases that can be prevented or easily treated like pneumonia and diarrhea, complicated bu malnutrition? What does the world need? Most national health care expenses in developing nations are spent on expensive services that serve those least in need.

What did Jesus do? His instruction to his disciples for their first outreach was to "preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick." (Luke 9:2)

what do you want to do? This 6-month course prepares you to GO and impact the 35,000 children a day who die of diseases that steal them away from God's GOOD intentions for them... to GO! armed with skills and the anointing of the Holy Spirit to bring lasting change!

Instruction includes:

  • Biblical perspective of health care - find out what the Bible really says about ministry to the whole man (body, soul and spirit), what God says about suffering, Holy Spirit's power for ministry, your identity as a servant.
  • Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology - basic understanding of the structure and function of the human body, God's amazing design!
  • Strategies in Primary Health Care - immnunization, six target diseases, nutritional rehabilitation, breast feeding, assessment and care of the sick child, use of growth monitoring, diagnosis and treatment of the most common disease in developing nations.
  • Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses - assessment of infants and young children with multiple health problems using WHO/UNICEF standards.
  • Practical Clinical Skills - basic physical assessment, vital signs, emergency child birth, first aid, managing medical emergencies, introduction to field laboratory work and more.

Integrated Classroom and Field Training
Continues throughout the entire course! Training geared specifically to work in areas with limited access to medical services. Many opportunities exist in Tonga for practical use of the skills learned throughout the course, both during the 3-month "classroom" phase and during the 3-month field assignment. Field assignment phase takes place in various Pacific Island nations and/or Asia.
