TRAINING SCHOOL IN THE KINGDOM OF TONGA
The
Gospel first arrived in this small nation about 200 years ago.
It spread from Tonga to other Pacific Island
nations. Unfortunately, the flow stayed within the boundaries of the Pacific
and never reached the shores of Asia and beyond. Worse still,
the wave of missions died. However, in recent years, with the
establishment of YWAM in the country, a trickle of Tongan missionaries
started going out from Tonga and the Pacific to Asia. The idea of
missions, especially missions work in countries that are closed
to the Gospel, had to be re-introduced to the Tongan church. Those
who started the work here found it difficult and many times felt
they were bringing in something that was totally foreign. Yet
Tonga has a rich missions history. a few years ago in 1999, God
has allowed us to witness "missions" taking root again
in the hearts of the Tongans. We are expecting many Tongans
to respond to the call of God through missions and join the next
DTS and other DTS's in these millenium years. These will be
the beginning of waves of missions from Tonga and other Pacific
nations to the rest of the world. DTS IS THE DOORWAY!!!!!
WHAT
IS A DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL?
The
DTS is specially designed to develop Christian character in those
who are called of God to serve Him. The fivemonth course is purposed
to bring indepth healing in areas of relationships with God and
others. Much time will be spent allowing God to invade your life.
It is not primarily a school of knowledge but rather it is a school
of wisdom - head knowledge translated to practical heart knowledge
by immediate application of truth. Applciation is the key word
and key work in the DTS.
God's greatest tool for transformation is the close live/learn
dynamics of community life, where indepth relationships with other
Christians will be established. On campus you'll enjoy a rich
multi-racial community from Europe, the United States, Canada,
and other Pacific Island nations. If you have more questions about the DTS in Tonga, please e-mail the DTS Leader at dts@uofntonga.org |
